Murdoch media’s melodrama on border safety

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has urged states to honour the May 8 national cabinet agreement to open their borders by July. That is nearly three weeks away and that is also when Annastacia Palaszczuk has pledged to review the border issue anyway.

Recently, the Courier Mail’s headline screamed Ronald Reagan’s 1987 demand that Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev should “tear down that wall”.

What a dramatic overreach! That wall remained closed for 28 years and border-guards gunned down anyone who tried to breach it to enter West Berlin.

Our Queensland border closure has only come after 29 years of prosperity so that lives can be protected, and when it’s all over business can recover and fight another day.

The election media campaign is well underway and obviously the Murdoch press will not be satisfied until another replica Campbell Newman LNP government takes over in Queensland.

Voters swayed by tendentious reporting should be very careful what they wish for.
